In the 1980's I made a large body of pictures in response to hill farming in Cumbria. As well as these oil paintings there were also a great many drawings and twenty editions of lithographs (see 'Original Prints' / 'Farming Original lithographs 1984-1992'). Sheep are depicted in many of these pictures and seem to me to have been a sort of alter ego . . to be replaced in the 1990's by birds, particularly crows and ravens. |
